Halloween 3D ???

BloodyDisgusting.com has this tidbit of news from the LA Times:

""Halloween II" may not have won the box office this weekend, but Weinstein Co. is taking a lesson from the movie that did as it prepares a sequel for next summer.

The independent studio's co-Chairman Bob Weinstein said today that the 3-D sequel, titled, appropriately enough, "Halloween 3D," is in development.

The investment it takes to shoot movies in digital 3-D has proved particularly lucrative for horror films. For "The Final Destination," this weekend's No. 1 movie, theaters with at least one 3-D screen earned 3.25 times as much as those that showed the movie in 2-D only, according to distributor Warner Bros. That's substantially higher than for other recent releases. The equivalent 3-D multiple for last month's "G-Force," for instance, was only 1.7 on its first weekend. For July's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" it was 1.4 and for June's "Up" it was 2.2. January horror flick "My Bloody Valentine" earned 6.4 times as much from 3-D theaters as it did from 2-D on its opening weekend.

Weinstein said Rob Zombie, who directed "Halloween II" and 2007's reboot of the 31-year-old horror series, won't return for "Halloween 3-D." He said the studio is in negotiations with a new director, whom he declined to name, who has experience in horror and has a "different take" on the franchise."

Interesting.

Would I love to see a Michael Myers flick in 3D? Hell yeah!

Would I like to see Zombie's vision carried forward? Hell no!!!

Guess time will tell.

And yeah, call me petty, but I AM glad that The Final Destination beat Halloween II in theaters.

new H2 pic... hmmm

Okay, so I haven't been excited about "Rob Zombie's H2: Halloween 2" or whatever it is being called. His "Halloween" remake didn't thrill me, it was too much. Too much back story, which I didn't think we really needed. Too much "kid Michael Myers". And too much gore. And believe me, I have enjoyed plenty of gory films, but it just didn't seem needed in a "Halloween" film.

Recently there has been talk of Michael going mask-less for much of the movie, mainly due to the shot of a bearded Tyler Mane sans mask that looked to be a scene from the film.

But, Zombie has said "Well, the truth is the movie is just now being edited so the exact percentage of mask wearing is unclear at this point. But fear not, Michael is seen wearing the mask as much if not more than you've ever seen him wearing a mask in any Halloween film. As seen below. Enjoy."

He also just released the following pic:

H2

I like this one. Michael looks beaten and battered, yet still standing and damn creepy. The hood might seem kind of emo, but if the mask is so badly ruined (not to mention his head wounds), then it makes sense to cover it to draw less attention to himself. Although, that might be a moot point cause, really, look at him!

Anyway... I keep thinking maybe I am too much of a fan of the original film that my judgement is clouded on Zombie's take on the whole thing. "John Carpenter's Halloween" is my all-time favorite movie, and I guess it is just hard to see something that is, to me, the polar-opposite.

I will give his new film a chance, though. And before I see it, I will rewatch his "Halloween" again. Maybe a fresh look will let me see it differently.

Halloween & Horror Movies

Halloween is almost here, and that means the TV lineup is filled with my favorite movies - scary movies! I wish they were all scary, but sadly, that isn't always the case. Lots of them can be downright bad, and not in the good-bad way, but in the lose-my-attention way. Ugh.

I still get excited in the week leading up to Halloween, mainly because of all the movies airing. The old classics are like comfort food, and there is always hope something great will be found in a new flick.

AMC (American Movie Classics) starts their annual FearFest tonight (previously called MonsterFest, not sure what necessitated the name change) with the original Halloween from 1978, my all-time favorite movie. AMC is playing up the 30th anniversary of the film, with Rob Zombie hosting FearFest, and PJ Soles as his guest, she played Linda in that movie. Always good to see her, she respects the fans and the movie, and she is always totally happy and smiling.

Some of the other movies on tonight are good, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers among them. Always liked this one, it has an effectively creepy feel, even if it was more like other 80s slasher films than the original film. Rachel was a great "scream queen," and Danielle Harris stood out. Zombie has her as a guest tonight, as well. Very cool!

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is airing, as well, which is okay. This film has some interesting ideas and scenes, but I think losing Rachel was a bad idea. The scene with the kids at the park and Michael behind the tree always creeps me out.

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers airs later, not much good I can say about that one. Confusing, far-fetched - bleh.

Even later tonight (early in the a.m. actually) Motel Hell is airing. Now this is an an odd one. If you haven't seen it, well ... 1980, Rory Calhoun, Nancy Parsons (Beulah Ballbricker from Porky's) and home-made beef jerky you WON'T want to try. Need I say more?

So, all in all, not a bad start for a week of scary movies. Hope I can stay up for most of them. Not as easy as it used to be, that's for sure!

Happy Halloween!
