Thought this was funny, even if I don't think there is such a thing as "too much" coffee.

The Coffee Cup Analogy

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university lecturer. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: “If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.”

So please, don’t let the cups drive you…enjoy the coffee instead.

Theme Thursday - Surface

The topic for this week's Theme Thursday is Surface.

I have had a case of writer's blahk for about a month, and nothing creative came to me for this theme.

So I decided to do something different and change the entire look, or 'surface', of my blog. A stretch, I know, but work with me people!

I had been thinking of making some blog changes for awhile and one of the issues I wanted to deal with was the dark/black background. I did like it, but I had noticed that when I read posts on my blog, or other black background blogs, my eyes saw after images of the white text. So, I wanted to change that.

And with that, I went ahead and uploaded an entire new layout. I hopefully have worked out all the kinks and I hope you like it.

Change??? Ah, Beans...

So I wake up today and find my wife has placed a napkin at the base of my coffee maker, to absorb the slowly, yet increasingly frequent, dripping brew.

Not good. Not good at all.

I had known my faithful friend was declining, but I was in denial. Who ever wants to admit when something so important and loved is reaching it's end? Not I.

My wife had mentioned buying a new one several times, but I was always sure I could make it last. Cleaning it, fiddling with it, trying to keep the aging process at bay.

However, the dripping and sad loss of valuable, delicious, life-affirming coffee increased in frequency and was now, in fact, continuous.

Alas, the end was inevitable.



Good-bye, my friend.

It's been a good ride.

Of course, the only way I would truly let this vital appliance leave our home is if there was a rookie waiting in the wings.

Most Loved Meme

Okay, yesterday was about the "hate", so today is all about the "love"

And I am already late, as Cal has already done this one, as have Darius Whiteplume and Dr. Monkey!



Here we go:

1. Most Loved Food: So many to choose from! I will go with Chicken Parmigiana with Garlic Bread. Mmmmmm

2. Most Loved Person: That would be Ravyn, my Mrs. I am one lucky dude!

3. Most Loved Job: Have to say that I loved aspects of my supermarket job. The organization part of it filled a neurotic OCD need my brain has, which in turn made me pretty good at it.

4. Most Loved City: Well, it's a town, but I really love little York, Maine.

5. Most Loved Band: Red Hot Chili Peppers.

6. Most Loved Website: I guess I will have to go with IMDb, since I am always checking it to find out some obscure fact or another about movies and TV.

7. Most Loved TV Program: Friday the 13th: The Series

8. Most Loved Movie: Halloween. The original, not the remake, of course.

9. Most Loved Artist: Dolly Parton. I know you may think I am playing loose with the term, but I am not. She has such a talent for writing and performing music that hits just the write spot in the heart and brain.

10. Most Loved Book: The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The movie is awesome and the book is so wonderful, as well. I think I am gonna read it again this year.

11. Most Loved Shop: Yummies in Kittery, Maine. Wall-to-wall candy, with many retro favorites.

12. Most Loved Organization: The ACLU.

13. Most Loved Historical Event: Darwin's voyage on the HMS Beagle.

14. Most Loved Sport: Baseball, 'nuf said.

15. Most Loved Piece of Tech: PCs. They have changed the world, and my life is one of the many profoundly affected for the better.

16. Most Loved Annual Event: Christmastime. We celebrate a non-religious holiday that goes from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year's Day, and we try and enjoy everything about the season, so that it isn't all just build up for one quick day.

17. Most Loved Daily Task: Having the first cup of coffee in the morning.

18. Most Loved Comedian: Right now, it is Jeff Dunham and his menagerie.
